AGRICULTURE

Acidic soil is not productive so to improve PH of acidic soil LIME is used. LIME also reduces crusting of surface and makes soil suitable for cropping.
Hence can be used to maintain PH, compost and also used in para-agriculture activities like disposal of animal products.

CHEMICAL INDUSTRY

LIME is a crucial reactant for many chemical reaction and processes.

CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

Since time unmemorable LIME is used as cementing material to strengthen binding structure made of bricks or stone .
Mortar making or plastering needs LIME as key component.
HYDRATED LIME when let dry reacts with CO2 and makes hard CaCO3(s) (calcium carbonate) a rocklike structure.
AAC BLOCKS need Quicklime powder in its manufacturing.

DAIRY INDUSTRY

In the process of pasteurization, LIME is needed to neutralize the acidity of cream. A medicinal product – CALCIUM LACTATE is made by using LIME from fermentation of skimmed milk. CALCIUM LACTATE is further acidified to manufacture LACTIC ACID.

FUEL GAS TREATMENT

From boilers or thermo packs which run on coal power smoke produced is loaded with many particulates and CO, CO2, etc. which is extracted by treatment with LIME in incinerators, makes it less polluting air and thus helps in environmental protection.

GLASS MANUFACTURING

LIME STONE and LIME are used for fluxing and no other ingredient can substitute it. For colored glass manufacturing LIME is important to maintain color.

LUBRICATION

LIME is used in grease manufacturing to make it temperature resistive.

LEATHER TANNING

Historically LIME has an application in leather manufacturing. It is used for dehairing and plumping hides. It is also used in tanning and cleaning of hides to convert it into leather.

PETROLEUM

In petroleum refining plants it is used for extrusion of plastic.

PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY

All pharmaceutical products which has calcium as its component need LIME or HYDRATED LIME as its raw material.

PAPER AND PULP INDUSTRY

Quicklime and HYDRATED LIME is needed in paper manufacturing process to increase opacity of paper and thus it enhances quality of paper.

PAINTS AND PIGMENT INDUSTRY

LIME acts as a filler in making surface even. Cement paint is also made from LIME. Calcium Carbonate in precipitation form is derived from LIME which can be used as paint pigment. Thus LIME has vital role in paint industry.

ROAD CONSTRUCTION

For constructing durable and strong roads, firstly base needs to be impermeable to reduce seepage of rain water by using HYDRATED LIME. LIME is also used as aggregate to fill structural pores in layers. LIME is also used in rough terrain to stabilize the inplace - soil.

STEEL AND METALLURGY INDUSTRY

Quicklime is key ingredient, used as flux in purification of steel. Other Metallurgical plants and refractory’s also need LIME as vital intermediate for metal extractions.

SUGAR INDUSTRY

Sugarcane or sugar beet needs cleaning which can be done with HYDRATED LIME. It also helps in correction of PH and thus became a key ingredient for sugar manufacturing.

WATER TREATMENT

Savage water or effluent from industries is treated with LIME in all ETPs. It corrects PH level of effluent by neutralizing acidic components. It also precipitate heavy metallic particles. LIME is used to treat bio solid waste before used for incineration (burning) or composting. It can also treat soil contaminated with hydro carbons. As LIME has utmost importance in waste water treatment.

Did you know?

Plants and animals absorb calcium carbonate in water, where it usually exists dissolved in the form of calcium hydrogen carbonate Ca(HCO3)2, and use it to build up their skeletons and shells. After their death, mussels, coccoliths, algae and corals form sedimentary deposits on sea beds and the rock-forming process is set in motion.

Did you know?

Limestone, the most important and abundant sedimentary rock in the world, is formed by the compaction of the remains of coral animals and plants on the bottoms of oceans.
